A house with plants not only seems more friendly and welcoming, it also has better indoor air quality and seems more lived-in than a house without plants. Whether your friend had just bought some new Lindsay, Ontario real estate or is having a birthday, house plants can be a great gift. If you're not a plant maven yourself and are wondering what some good plants to choose as a gift might be, use this guide to buying plants for the home to help you find the perfect gift.
Cut Flowers
Cut flowers are some of the most beautiful arrangements you can buy. Cut flowers come in dozens of colors and shades and varieties from roses to daisies to chrysanthemums to lilies. If you know your friend's favorite kind of flower, visit your local florist and order an arrangement that will brighten up her Edmonton real estate. Floral arrangements come in many sizes and can fit most budgets. The only drawback is that eventually the flowers will die and have to be discarded.
Potted Plants
If you want to give flowers but have them stick around for more than a week or so, consider buying potted plants to adorn your friends' lofts. Toronto florists will often stock potted plants, but you're more likely to find them at gardening stores, big box home improvement stores, department stores, and even some grocery stores. Paradoxically, potted plants are often less expensive than cut flowers. If you're concerned about your friend's ability to keep the plant alive, go with a hardy cactus or aloe plant.
Trees and Shrubs
Though most Toronto condos are only large enough to accommodate a few small potted plants, if your friend has some extra room in her house or condo you might consider filling it with a potted tree or shrub. Ficus trees do very well inside, and bonsai trees are expensive but will make a nice centerpiece. Before you buy a tree, however, check with staff at the garden supply store to make sure it can survive indoors without special care and handling.
Fake Plants
Some people just love how plants make their home look and feel, but can't seem to keep them alive. For these 'black thumbed' people, you might consider getting a plastic tree or plant to decorate their real estate in Vaughan. They don't have the same air filtering properties as real plants, but as least they won't die and have to be thrown out.
